What is Shaw Video On Demand (VOD)?
Shaw Video On Demand (VOD) is your portal to access thousands of movie titles, sports features and TV programs. You’ll need Shaw Television programming in either Digital or HDTV programming to access our VOD selections that let you watch as often as you like until your order expires.
Watch your selection just like a DVD – pause, rewind and fast forward. Select titles are also available to watch in online streaming format.
There’s no need to leave the house for the video store and you won’t face late fees. Choose from new releases, comedies, dramas, thrillers, classics, TV series and more, many of which are available in HD.
Browse our super selection of titles for free with your Shaw Remote, on the VOD website or on iPhone/iPod touch and Android applications, which are free to download.
What is the difference between VOD and Pay Per View?
VOD lets you watch a movie or series title any time you want. You can pause, fast forward and rewind your selection with your Shaw Remote. Or shut it off and watch later – provided it's within your purchase window, which varies depending upon your selection of movie or series.
Pay Per View is the perfect choice for watching great live events such as UFC or WWE. It also has a number of new-release movie titles that start at scheduled times.
What is Subscription Video On Demand?
Order what you want, when you want, and without single payments piling up. Get Subscription VOD and pay a low monthly fee that gives you unlimited access to any of the featured selections. Shaw offers Subscription VOD services such as Movie Central On Demand, Super Channel On Demand, Anime Network On Demand, Aux TV and Movie Club.
How much do the Android and iPhone/iPad touch applications cost?
The applications are free to download. Shaw is not responsible for any data fees charged by your mobile provider.

How much does VOD cost?
Paid orders start as low as $0.99 each, while most movies, including new releases, are $4.99 per title. Many movie selections are available in high-definition for $5.99. Adult titles start at $9.99. VOD also features many free and subscription titles.
How do I place a VOD order?
Order your selections on our VOD website, or from your Shaw Remote, using the Shaw On Demand button.
Using VOD website
1. Visit our VOD website and choose from an extensive library of titles, many of which are in HD.
2. Click the Order Now button to make your selection.
3. Sign in using your @Shaw.ca email and password or with your Customer Centre username and password. If you haven’t yet registered for Customer Centre, you will need your Shaw account number, telephone number and postal code.
4. Turn on your TV, press the Shaw On Demand button. You'll find your selection in your My Orders section.
Using the mobile application
Shaw has developed mobile applications to make ordering your Video On Demand selections even easier. Download our applications for :
Follow these steps to order from VOD:
- Launch the Shaw VOD app on your mobile device and choose from an extensive library of titles, many of which are in HD.
- Sign in to your VOD account using your @Shaw.ca email and password or with your Customer Centre account name and password. If you haven’t yet registered for Customer Centre, you will need your Shaw account number, telephone number and postal code.
- Click the Order button to make your selection.
- Turn on your TV, then press the Shaw On Demand button. You'll find your selection in the My Orders section.
Using your Shaw Remote
- Press Shaw On Demand on your Shaw Remote.
- Use the Page Up/Down buttons to take you through the categories.
- Make your selection, then press OK.
- Select YES to order and enjoy your title within the purchase window.
How do I sign in to my mobile application to place a VOD order?
Your username and password on the Android and iPhone/iPod touch applications are the same as your information on Customer Centre and the VOD website.
How do I pay for my order?
The cost of your order will be added to your monthly Shaw bill with details on the name and date of the order. Shaw exercises discretion when billing for adult-rated orders.
Do I need special equipment to access VOD?
You need Shaw-authorized digital or high-definition hardware and programming to access VOD content, if it is available in your area. Learn more about purchasing or renting Shaw hardware at Shaw.ca
To access streaming VOD online, you must have a @Shaw.ca email address and subscribe to one of Shaw Television’s digital or high-definition TV plans.
Can I cancel an order I've already made?
You will be billed for an order once the program has started to play. If your selection does not load, you should hit Stop on your Shaw Remote immediately to avoid being billed.
Can I look at my order history?
Use the My Orders section of the VOD website or your mobile application to view a 90-day history of titles you have ordered. Click My Orders to see your order history.
Can I order adult content from my mobile application?
Adult content is not available through the Android and iPad/iPod touch applications. Visit the VOD website to browse adult titles.
How to Watch
How do I watch movies online?
Shaw Video On Demand offers a number of titles in online streaming format. They’re easy to order then watch on your computer or laptop.
- Visit our VOD website and choose from an extensive library of titles. Use the Online filter to view the available titles or look for the Viewable Online flag on movie descriptions.
- Click the Order Now button to make your selection.
- Sign in using your @Shaw.ca email and password. If you have a Customer Centre account, you can enter your username and password. If you don't have a Customer Centre account, you can register for one using your Shaw account number, telephone number and postal code.
- Click the Complete Now button to confirm your order.
- Click the Watch Now button. You will be taken to the next screen where you title will load. Sit back and enjoy the show.
How can I prevent my children from ordering VOD content I feel is inappropriate?
Shaw provides you with an option to set Parental Locks, letting you decide what your children watch. You can restrict viewing and purchases of programming, based on your viewing preferences. Set a personalized four-digit PIN to place locks on selected ratings, channels and titles. You also can hide adult titles from being displayed on-screen.
Via your Shaw Remote
You can set up Parental Locks for VOD and Pay Per View with your Purchase PIN.
- Use your Shaw Remote and select Main Menu, then Setup.
- Select Parental Control.
- Select PINs Setup.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to set up, clear or change your PINs.
Via Customer Centre
- Go to Shaw Customer Centre.
- Sign in using your Customer Centre username and password.
- Click TV in the left menu and then Manage Ratings.
- Select the maximum ratings you would like to allow for movies and television programs.
- Click Update Ratings.
Note: There will be a delay before the settings take effect.
Can the same movie be sent to two different TVs in my house?
Yes, but you can watch it on only one Shaw Digital Box at a time. You could start watching a movie in your living room and finish watching it in your bedroom.
How do I watch 1080p movies on Shaw On Demand?
You must have a Shaw Gateway and a 1080p compatible TV to watch 1080p movies on Shaw On Demand.
Follow these steps to set up your Gateway to display 1080p movies correctly on your widescreen TV:
- Press MENU on your Shaw Remote and scroll left/right to the SETTINGS menu.
- Within the SETTINGS menu, scroll up/down to ASPECT RATIO and press OK.
- In ASPECT RATIO, select WIDESCREEN (16:9) TV and press OK.
As part of this process you must also choose how you would like your standard definition content to appear. Choose either MAINTAIN or STRETCH
- Within the SETTINGS menu select TV SETUP.
- Select 1080i, 1080p 24Hz and 1080p 30Hz.
- Select CLOSE to exit the setup.
You are now ready to enjoy your movie. Return to the VOD Store, navigate to MY ORDERS and resume your movie.
